Cook Mode (Keep Screen awake)
Ingredients
Scale:
- 2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
- ¾ cup milk + 1 tsp. lemon juice or buttermilk
Instructions: #
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet or cast iron pan.
- Add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. to a medium bowl and mix to combine.
- Cut butter into small pieces and add to flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter, cut butter into flour until well distributed. Alternatively, you can do this in a blender.
- Add milk (or buttermilk) to flour mixture and fold to combine. Mix until everything comes together but try not to over mix - this will create tough biscuits.
- Dust work surface with flour and turn out dough. Flatten into about a 3/4" disc. Fold in half once and repeat.
- Using a biscuit cutter or rim of a glass, cut biscuits and place into pan. You can reshape the excess dough to get more biscuits but note these biscuits are likely to be less tender.
- Bake for 7-10 minutes or until the tops are lightly browned.
Notes #
Placing butter in the freezer for 10-15 minutes ahead of time will make it easier to cut in.
